Woodstock’s Pentangle of the Arts

This summer, Pentangle Arts Council and the ArtisTree Gallery are teaming up to bring Unbound, Vol. 2 to Woodstock on July 27. This dynamic juried exhibit, a part of the annual Bookstock Festival, features book-inspired art of all shapes, sizes and colors and is the sequel to a successful event last summer. The call for artists is out, and we are welcoming all manner of art that uses the book as its principal medium or format. Last year’s show prompted some really amazing creative work, and we look forward to another fantastic exhibit! (Artists: Scroll down for information on how to submit artwork.)

In other news, we’ve been seeing a lot of Jay Nash tickets going out the door. So, don’t miss your chance to see this excellent local singer-songwriter, along with the opening act featuring Woodstock singer Lisa Piccirillo. In our marketing efforts for this great show, we’ve been displaying and emailing a bunch of different pictures – and also searching out a few fun factoids to throw in. Along those lines, Lisa has shared with us that her love of cooking prompted her to name her cat Basil. Also this month, our new indie film theme continues with A Separation, the 2012 Oscar winner for Best Foreign Film! This movie will be showing from May 19-21 at 7:30 pm at the Woodstock Town Hall Theatre. However, before that, we bring to you Mirror Mirror, starring Julia Roberts, which is the latest incarnation of the classic tale of Snow White. This film will be on May 11-14, also at 7:30 pm.

Billings Farm’s Baby Animal Day set for Saturday, April 7th

WOODSTOCK, VERMONT . . . Billings Farm & Museum, gateway to Vermont’s rural heritage, will feature Baby Animal Day on Saturday, April 7, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The event will feature family-centered programs with the farm’s lambs, chicks, and calves, plus visiting ducklings and goslings; also horse-drawn wagon rides, heirloom garden and children’s activities.

Get up close with chicks, ducklings, and goslings in their pens, Jersey calves in the nursery, and lambs in the shee barn with their mothers, and learn about their care, diet, and growth. There will be pom-pom chick and lamb handprint craft activities on hand especially for children.

The Vermont Institute of Natural Science Entices and Excites People to Care for the Natural World

VINS’ programs and services engage and instill in people of all backgrounds a desire to care for the wildlife and diverse natural habitats they encounter in their daily lives.

We offer relevant environmental education programs for adults, families, and school children; partner with leading conservation organizations to promote environmental science field research; and operate New England’s premier avian wildlife rehabilitation clinic at the VINS Nature Center.

VINS has been a leader in environmental education and wildlife conservation and care since 1972. We are known nationally for innovative natural science curricula and education programs for learners of all ages.

Our Environmental Educators and Wildlife Rehabilitation Specialists are Among the Best in the Business

Each year, they deliver specialized education and training programs in schools and communities and hands-on public education programs at the VINS Nature Center to more than 40,000 people from throughout New England.

In the next two years, VINS aims to reach beyond its traditional audiences and engage and serve large numbers of adult learners and teaching professionals. We will do this by developing and delivering specialized adult programs that illuminate current environmental science issues, and by providing professional teachers with new classroom-ready instructional materials and support.

Public Skating in Woodstock

With the holiday season fast approaching, the Woodstock area will be seeing an influx of guests. Many of those guests will be asking what there is available for activities in the area. Union Arena has many Public Skate times available during the holiday season (as well as throughout the fall and winter) and has a few special event Public Skates. Admission to public skating is $6. The Union Arena has many skates for rent, both hockey and figure skates, for an additional $5. There is Public Skating every day: Saturdays 3.50-5.10pm, Sundays 12.30-1.50pm, 1.20-2.40pm Monday through Thursday, and 12.20-1.30 on Fridays.
